CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
VINCENT P. SARUBBI, CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR
MEDIA   INFORMATION

February 24, 2004

Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi and Acting Camden Police Chief Edwin J.Figueroa reported today that Joey J. Perez, M/23, was charged this morning with Murder, accused of fatally shooting Claudy Vazquez, M/24, on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, in Camden, N.J.

Perez, of the 2700 block of Cramer Street in Camden, is being held at the Camden County Correctional Facility in lieu of $450,000 bail, cash or bond, set today by Superior Court Presiding Criminal Division Judge Linda G. Baxter, on the Murder charge as well as alleged weapons offenses.

Camden Police received a 911 call at approximately 6:23 a.m. Saturday after an area resident saw Vazquez's lifeless body in his van, which was parked on Pierce Avenue near 26th Street. An autopsy determined the victim died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigation indicates that Perez knew the victim and shot him inside the van sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. Saturday after the two engaged in an argument.

All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
