Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi and Acting Camden Police
Chief Edwin J.Figueroa reported today that Joey J. Perez, M/23,
was charged this morning with Murder, accused of fatally shooting
Claudy Vazquez, M/24, on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, in Camden, N.J.
Perez, of the 2700 block of Cramer Street in Camden, is being held
at the Camden County Correctional Facility in lieu of $450,000 bail,
cash or bond, set today by Superior Court Presiding Criminal Division
Judge Linda G. Baxter, on the Murder charge as well as alleged weapons
offenses.
Camden Police received a 911 call at approximately 6:23 a.m. Saturday
after an area resident saw Vazquez's lifeless body in his van, which
was parked on Pierce Avenue near 26th Street. An autopsy determined
the victim died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigation indicates that Perez knew the victim and shot him
inside the van sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. Saturday after
the two engaged in an argument.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent
unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
