CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
VINCENT P. SARUBBI, CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR
MEDIA INFORMATION
January 24, 2004
Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi and Lindenwold Police
Chief Francis A. McHenry reported today that two men have been charged
with Murder in a fatal shooting Thursday night, Jan. 22, 2004, in
Lindenwold, N.J.
Troy Broadway, 28, of the Barrington Inn & Motel on the White Horse
Pike in Barrington, is being held in the Camden County Correctional
Facility in Camden in lieu of $300,000 bail. Rahsann Riley, 22, of
the Arborwood Apartments on Gibbsboro Road in Lindenwold, is being
held in lieu of $250,000 bail. An arraignment is expected to be scheduled
for Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at the Camden County Hall of Justice.
Broadway and Riley are charged in connection with the fatal shooting
of Maurice Develle Thomas, M/20.
Lindenwold Police received a 911 call at approximately 11:01 p.m.
Thursday night reporting shots fired at the Green Tree Apartments
on Gibbsboro Road. Officers arrived to find the victim lying on the
floor of unit 1504. Thomas had been shot multiple times in the upper
body and was dead at the scene.
The investigation indicates Thomas had been staying at that unit for
some time but was not the official tenant, and may have lived previously
in an unknown unit at the Arborwood Apartments. The Green Tree Apartment
unit where the victim was found had been the subject of resident complaints
because of alleged suspicious activity there.
Riley was apprehended at approximately 2 p.m. Friday on the White
Horse Pike in Lawnside.
Broadway, the alleged shooter, was taken into custody at approximately
3:30 p.m. on Friday on Clements Bridge Road in Barrington. A third
man who was with Broadway at the time he was arrested was questioned
and released.
Investigators have recovered a handgun believed to have been used
in the killing.
The investigation is continuing, and charges are expected against
additional defendants.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent unless
and until proven guilty in a court of law.
