VINCENT P. SARUBBI, CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR
MEDIA   INFORMATION

January 23, 2004

Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi and Lindenwold Police Chief Francis A. McHenry reported today that detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of Maurice Develle Thomas, M/20, on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, in Lindenwold, N.J.

Lindenwold Police received a 911 call at approximately 11:01 p.m. last night reporting shots fired at the Green Tree Apartments on Gibbsboro Road. Officers arrived to find the victim lying on the floor of unit 1504. Thomas had been shot multiple times in the upper body and was dead at the scene.

Thomas had been staying at that unit for some time but was not the official tenant, investigation indicates. It is not clear if anyone else was in the apartment at the time he was shot. Preliminary investigation indicates that approximately four suspects ran into apartment just before shots rang out, then exited the apartment and fled on foot.

No arrests have been made. The investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information on the shooting should contact the Camden County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit at (856) 225-8400 or Lindenwold Police at (856) 784-2630.
