CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
VINCENT P. SARUBBI, CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR
MEDIA INFORMATION
January 7, 2004
Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi announced that a Grand
Jury today indicted Kim J. Carlos, M/48, of the 600 block of Park
Avenue in Laurel Springs, N.J., on charges of Endangering the Welfare
of a Child for allegedly taking sexually explicit photographs of a
15-year-old male Philadelphia resident.
Carlos was a 12th-grade math teacher at Overbrook High School in Pine
Hill, N.J., at the time of the alleged offense.
If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison and
Megan's Law registration on the second-degree charge under the child
pornography section of the Endangering the Welfare of a Child statute.
The investigation began after Carlos brought film to the Eckerd Drug
Store at Chews Landing and Laurel roads in Lindenwold on May 30, 2003.
The roll allegedly contained three sexually explicit photographs of
the victim. The store manager alerted police soon after the defendant
left, and officers apprehended him at the store on May 31, 2003, when
he came for the photographs.
The investigation indicates the defendant met the victim at a coffee
shop in Philadelphia.
Carlos is free on $250,000 bail. No court appearances are scheduled
at this time.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent unless
and until proven guilty in a court of law.
