MEDIA INFORMATION
March 27, 2003
Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi announced that an arraignment
is scheduled today for Anthony D. Parker, M/19, who is charged with
Aggravated Manslaughter in the Dec. 27, 2000, death of Jesus Caban,
M/47, in Camden, N.J.
The victim, of the 1100 block of Kenwood Avenue in Camden, was fatally
beaten at approximately 1 a.m. near Louis and Sycamore Streets.
An arraignment for Parker, of the 1800 block of South 8th Street,
is scheduled for 11 a.m. today before Superior Court Judge Samuel
D. Natal in Courtroom 56 of the Camden County Hall of Justice, 5th
Street and Mickle Boulevard, Camden.
On Wednesday, March 26, 2003, Superior Court Judge Louis F. Hornstine
granted a motion by Assistant Prosecutor Diane Marano, Section Chief
of the Juvenile Unit in the Prosecutor's Office, to have the defendant
waived to adult court to face the charge. Parker was 17 at the time
of the alleged offense.
Parker had been held in the Camden County Youth Detention Center
in Blackwood since being arrested Feb. 21, 2003, in Camden. He was
transferred to the Camden County Correctional Facility in Camden
following Wednesday's hearing.
The investigation indicates Caban was beaten as a result of a dispute
over money.
A co-defendant, Dante Stackhouse, M/22, of Camden, has pleaded guilty
to Aggravated Manslaughter and is serving a 10-year sentence in
New Jersey State Prison, including 85 percent, or 8½ years, without
parole eligibility. A second co-defendant, Sherron Clayton, M/20,
of Camden, pleaded guilty to Manslaughter and is serving an eight-year
term, including 85 percent, or six years and nine months, without
parole eligibility.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent
unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
