Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi announced that George
Milton, M/33, of Camden, N.J., was sentenced today to 15 years in
New Jersey State Prison, including five years without parole eligibility,
on drug distribution and weapons possession charges.
The defendant, of the 500 block of Mechanic Street, had pleaded
guilty in front of Superior Court Judge Frank M. Lario Jr. on Dec.
9, 2002, to Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Controlled
Dangerous Substance (cocaine) and Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted
Felon.
As
a result of an investigation by the Philadelphia/Camden High Intensity
Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force, officers executed a search
warrant at the defendant's home on May 3, 2002. Seized were a .40-caliber
semi-automatic pistol, more than five ounces of crack cocaine, $27,236
in cash and drug packaging paraphernalia such as a scale and small
plastic bags.
Lario also signed an order turning the cash over to law enforcement
for use in accordance with the state's drug forfeiture statute.
The weapon possession charge stems from the defendant's three prior
convictions for drug distribution within 1,000 feet of a school,
all in Camden.
