Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi and Camden Police Chief Robert Allenbach announced today that Leroy Avant Jr., M/40, whose last known address is in the 300 block of Viola Street in Camden, was shot and killed on Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at 7th & Chestnut streets in the city.

Officers responding to a 12:30 p.m. call reporting shots fired arrived to find the victim lying on the sidewalk. A second victim, a 52-year-old male, was shot and injured. His name is being withheld because he is a witness.

The investigation indicates the victims were shot while standing beside a vehicle near 7th & Chestnut. An earlier report that the victims were inside a vehicle when they were shot was incorrect.

No arrests have been made.
