CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
VINCENT P. SARUBBI, CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR
MEDIA   INFORMATION

February 10, 2003

Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi announced that John McGuckin, M/60, of the 800 block of Market Street, Gloucester City, pleaded guilty today to Aggravated Sexual Assault, admitting in court that he performed oral sex on a 7-year-old girl and made her perform oral sex on him.

The offenses occurred in Gloucester City on various dates between September 2001 and September 2002.

Assistant Prosecutor Howard Gilfert will recommend McGuckin receive a term of 18 years in New Jersey State Prison when Superior Court Judge Irvin J. Snyder sentences the defendant on May 16, 2003. Please note that the sentence is subject to the No Early Release Act (NERA), meaning the defendant must serve 85 percent - or approximately 15 years and four months of the recommended 18-year term - before becoming eligible for parole.

Following the plea, Judge Snyder revoked McGuckin's bail and the defendant was returned to the Camden County Correctional Facility, where he has been held since his arrest on Sept. 5, 2002.
