VINCENT P. SARUBBI, CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR
MEDIA INFORMATION
January 19, 2003
Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi announced that Guy Greenday,
M\34, pleaded guilty today to attempted murder and burglary. The defendant
admitted in court that he broke into a home in the 1800 block of 45th
Street in Pennsauken, and that during the course of the burglary he
assaulted a 9-year-old female resident.
Greenday, whose last known address was in the same block as the victim's
home, admitted that he entered the house in the early morning hours
of July 4, 2002. He woke up the victim, who was sleeping on a living
room couch while her mother and her mother's fiancé were asleep in
an upstairs bedroom.
Greenday admitted before Superior Court Judge John T. McNeill, III
that he took the girl into the basement. The defendant told the Court
that when the girl began to scream he struck her multiple times in
the head with a weightlifting plate intending to "permanently silence
her." He acknowledged that if the adults in the home knew he was there
he would be in trouble, and that the girl could identify him.
The victim suffered a skull evultion and multiple severe head lacerations.
Her mother's fiancé found the victim in the basement when he awoke
at approximately 8:00 a.m.
Greenday said the victim was bleeding profusely when he left and admitted
that he sought no help for her.
Assistant Prosecutor Donna Spinosi, Section Chief of the Child Abuse
Unit within the Prosecutor's Office will recommend a term of 25 years
in New Jersey State Prison, with 21 years, 3 months to be served before
parole eligibility, when Greenday is sentenced January 17, 2003.
