CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
VINCENT P. SARUBBI, CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR
MEDIA INFORMATION
January 8, 2003
Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi and Camden City Police
Chief Robert Allenbach reported that Jerome A. Taylor, M/22, was arrested
today and charged with Murder in connection with the death of Anthony
J. King, M/25. The victim was shot and killed early today in the 1200
block of Rose Street in Camden.
At approximately 12:50 a.m. today, Camden Police officers patrolling
in the area heard gunshots and responded to find the victim's body
on the sidewalk. King, who lived in the 200 block of Pfeiffer Street
in Camden, apparently had been shot multiple times in the head and
body. Based on descriptions of the shooters, Camden Police apprehended
Taylor, of the 1300 block of Argus Road in Camden, a few blocks from
the shooting scene minutes after the assault. He was charged with
Murder this afternoon.
An arraignment for Taylor is scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, Jan.
9, 2003, at approximately 9 a.m. before Presiding Criminal Court Judge
Linda G. Baxter in Courtroom 33 of the Camden County Hall of Justice,
5th Street & Mickle Boulevard, Camden.
The investigation indicates King was standing on the sidewalk when
two individuals approached and began firing at the victim. More arrests
are possible in connection with the case, Sarubbi said.
The area where the shooting occurred has been plagued by illegal drug
trafficking, and authorities are investigating whether the incident
was drug-related.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent unless
and until proven guilty in a court of law.
