MEDIA INFORMATION
January 7, 2003
Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi, Camden City Police Chief
Robert Allenbach and Camden County Sheriff Michael McLaughlin reported
that bail was set today at $350,000, cash or bond, for Daniel Agron,
M/21, who is charged with Murder in connection with the death on Friday,
Jan. 3, 2002, of Alex Castellar, M/24, in Camden.
Agron, of the 900 block of North 6th Street in Camden, was arrested
by Sheriff's officers on Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at approximately 2
p.m. at the Fox Ridge Apartments in Hi-Nella. U.S. Marshall's Office
personnel assisted in the search and arrest. The defendant is accused
of fatally shooting Castellar, who had lived in the Northgate Apartments,
at 8th and York streets in Camden at approximately 6:03 p.m. The victim
was pronounced dead shortly after 8 p.m. that night at Cooper Hospital
in Camden.
Two other young men who were injured by gunfire were treated at Cooper
Hospital in Camden and released the night of the shootings.
Open-air drug dealing has plagued the area where the shooting occurred,
and authorities are investigating whether the incident resulted from
a dispute between rival drug crews.
After being arraigned before Presiding Criminal Court Judge Linda
G. Baxter, Agron was returned to the Camden County Correctional Facility.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent unless
and until proven guilty in a court of law.
