New Jersey (WFNJ)
- Emphasizes
personal responsibility and offers clients the opportunity to
become self-sufficient members of the community.
- Instills
and promotes self-sufficiency and pride through work.
- Benefits
can only be received for a maximum of 60 months. Recipients are
required to participate in a work activity unless medical documentation
indicates a temporary or permanent disability.
- Work
First New Jersey's two programs:
- Temporary
Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) provides cash assistance
to families with children under 18 years of age whether headed
by a single adult or couple.
- The
General Assistance Program (GA) provides cash assistance
to single adults and couples age 18 and older, without dependent
children.
- WFNJ
Case Management helps clients become and stay employed by offering
employment and training opportunities. These include job search/job
readiness, on the job training, and supported work. Case managers
arrange and coordinate supports such as childcare, transportation,
work expenses and up to two years of medical coverage.
- Provides
medical assistance to TANF and GA eligible persons through a mandatory
managed healthcare system.
- A
variety of HMO's provide managed care to recipients.
- Aims
to increase the food purchasing power of low-income households
and the nutritional adequacy of their diets.
- The
Food Stamp Program serves both public assistance and non-public
assistance households.
