Kroc Center Site Remediation
December 9, 2010 -- Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr., Senator Donald
Norcross, Camden City Mayor Dana Redd, DEP Commissioner Bob Martin, Salvation Army
Major Paul Cain along with other state and local officials gathered today to celebrate the start of
Kroc Center Site Remediation.
Beginning this month, the first of 12,000 truckloads of clean fill will be brought to the Kroc
Center location – the future site of The Salvation Army’s Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community
Center. The Kroc Center location is on Harrison Avenue in the Cramer Hill section of Camden.
A total of 220,000 cubic yards of clean fill will help remediate nearly 30 acres of the former
Harrison Avenue Landfill. Upon completion, the land will have been reclaimed, preparing the
way for a center that will help to reclaim lives throughout the region.
“This site’s transformation from a former landfill into a community center is an incredible
symbol of progress,” said Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr. “This land
could have sat vacant and served no further purpose, but instead it will offer recreational,
spiritual, educational, and cultural arts programs to help build up our community.”
