Carmen
G. Rodriguez is a resident of Merchantville, NJ. She lives with her
loving husband, Ornan, and their three young sons, Alexander, Anthony
and Aaron. She was born in Puerto Rico and moved to Philadelphia with
her family when she was four years old. She lived in North Philadelphia
and then Camden City during her childhood. After
graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in Camden with honors,
Carmen chose to continue her education. She earned a Bachelor of
Science degree in biological science with a minor in Spanish from
Rutgers University in May 1993, a Master of Education degree in
Teaching English as a Second Language from The College of New Jersey
and a Master of Chemistry Education degree from the University of
Pennsylvania. She currently holds teaching certificates in Physical
Science, Biological Science, Bilingual Science and K-8 Education.
After completing her Bachelor's degree Carmen chose to return to
her roots in Camden City were she worked for ten years as a Bilingual
Science teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School. She then taught high
school science at Audubon Jr./Sr. High School before taking time
off to care for her newborn son.
Her
education and experience as a teacher in Camden City and in the
Borough of Audubon have motivated her to expand her role as a public
servant. As the first Hispanic Freeholder in Camden County history
she serves as liaison to the Department of Health and Human Services
and the Board of Social Services.
Freeholder Rodriguez is the Liaison to the Following Departments
