Chamber of Commerce of Southern New Jersey Recognizes Camden County for Reducing Expenses & Saving Taxpayer Dollars
The Chamber of Commerce of Southern New Jersey recognized Camden County in a report from the Chamber’s Board Council on Responsible Government Spending.In the third and most recent in the Board Council report series, the Chamber detailed Camden County’s efforts in the report, The Camden County Story: Reducing Expenses & Saving Taxpayer Dollars. According to the Chamber, “Camden County was the first county government in the State to embrace and apply the Chamber’s Board Council on Responsible Government Spending recommendations to reduce expenses thereby saving taxpayer dollars.”
In presenting the Public Service award to Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli, Jr., Kathy Davis, Executive Vice President of the Chamber told attendees that “Lou and his colleagues were brave enough to accept—and act upon—the dismal fiscal situation that was poised to become a full-blown crisis if the county didn’t get tough and act fast.”
Ms. Davis went on to say that “Under his leadership, not only is significant positive change underway in Camden County, it is happening quickly, noticeably, and with lasting impact. In just three years, Camden County reduced its workforce by nearly a sixth—653 people.”
Director Cappelli thanked his fellow freeholders for their commitment to seeking solutions to ever-escalating costs, while remaining focused on delivering quality services to Camden County residents. “This is an ongoing, total team effort that includes my colleagues on the freeholder board, the administration, our unions and all county employees. Without the cooperative spirit we work so hard to create, we would not be able to achieve our collective goals on behalf of taxpayers,” Cappelli said.
