Term - January 2010 to December 2012
Since joining the Camden County Board of Freeholders’ team in 2007, Rod has viewed his trusted position as another step in a long journey of public service.
Rod’s career efforts in the field of Education serve as a testament to his passionate beliefs in providing one of our greatest natural resources – the students of Camden County - with the required technical skills to succeed in today’s challenging world, as well as the critical human services for those in need.
Since 1986, Rod has served as the Management Information/Technical Service Supervisor for the Gloucester Township School District. Rod also is the Director of the Standardized Testing and Central Registration program for the district, and had served as the district’s Affirmative Action Officer for two years.
Prior to his present duties, Rod served with distinction for 13 years as a Special Education teacher in the district at the Charles W. Lewis Middle School.
Those overseeing Rod’s duties no doubt share his belief, “that what you do speaks louder than what you say,” as evidenced by their selecting Rod in 2005 to receive the prestigious Camden County Freedom Medal for his distinguished work.
Rod also took great pride in his service as a member and Vice Chairperson of the Camden County Ethics Board from 1993 to 2007.
Freeholder Greco has brought a boundless energy and unique management style to his Freeholder responsibilities, and the residents of Camden County have no doubt benefited from his presence on the job.
In his first term, Rod served as the Liaison to Public Works and Highways and oversaw a host of projects that improved the quality of life for those traveling throughout the county. The widening and resurfacing of many roads, the installation of several traffic signals and attending to needed dam repairs, were all a part of Freeholder Greco’s careful planning.
Since June 2009 the duties of Liaison to the Department of Public Safety & Juvenile Justice have been Freeholder Greco’s current responsibilities, and he is providing valuable insight and counsel for outlining the future of the Department of Corrections, Juvenile Justice, the Offices of the Medical Examiner and Fire Marshall, as well as the Youth Center and Park Police.
His keen desire to be actively involved in all of his professional and personal interests has allowed Rod to keep his finger firmly on the pulse of Camden County issues for more than 20 years. Rod is proud of his work and contributions as: a member of Gloucester Township Town Council since 2000; his service as President of the Black Horse Pike Board of Education (1994-2000); as a member of the respected Camden County Library Commission (1994-2000), and as the Financial Chairperson of the NJAET (1990-2000).
Rod’s passion for his freeholder duties burns as brightly as it did when he started in 2007 and he views the challenges ahead as simply another opportunity to serve.
“‘Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this earth,”” said Rod, quoting the late Congresswoman Shirley Chisolm (D-NY) as the driving force of his life’s work. “I have been blessed in so many ways and I want to continue to do all that I can to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the good people of Camden County.”
Rod is a longtime resident of Gloucester Township and currently resides in Blackwood. He has been married since 1973 to his wife, Susan. They have two sons, Jesse and Nick.
