Her America: 5 Women Artists Who Defined 20th Century Art

Event Navigation

Join The Center at Camden County College for the lecture series “Her America: 5 Women Artists Who Defined 20th Century Art” with Monica Zimmerman on Tuesdays at 7 PM at the Collingswood Community Center.

This week’s artist is Elizabeth Catlett. The granddaughter of freed slaves, Catlett’s socially-conscious prints and sculptures stem directly from her experience as an African American woman in the early 20th century, celebrating the black woman as strong and maternal, linking history and contemporary black heroes through pictures, and combining aesthetics and activism.
