(Lindenwold, NJ) – Freeholder Susan Shin Angulo, liaison to the Camden County Department of Public Works, has been informed by the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) that part of Creek Road will be closed beginning Aug. 11 for an improvements project to the Route 130 Circle in Brooklawn. The stretch of Creek Road from Old Salem Road to the Brooklawn Circle is expected to be closed for several months while the project is underway.

Beginning at noon on Friday, Aug. 11, NJDOT is scheduled to close the stretch of road and begin directing motorists along pre-planned detour routes. Drivers headed northbound on Route 47 will be detoured to Route 130 via the circle, before heading to Old Salem Road and then Creek Road. Creek Road traffic will follow the same detour route heading in the opposite direction, first turning onto Old Salem Road and ending southbound on Route 47.

“This is a highly-traveled area where there is frequent stopping and starting, as well as changing traffic patterns. Motorists need to be aware of the construction taking place and be extra mindful as they approach and go through the circle,” Shin Angulo said. “Whenever you are driving through a road construction zone, please stay prepared for traffic pattern changes and be observant of posted instructions or directions.”

The $7.9 million federally-funded Route 130 Brooklawn Circles Improvement project began in August of last year and is expected to be completed in early 2018. The improvements are expected to significantly enhance safety and improve traffic in the area of the circle.

Specific improvements include:

  • The elimination of the left turn movement from the circle onto Creek Road
  • The elimination of all turns from Creek Road to Route 47
  • Improvement to the vertical curve from the Route 47 Bridge onto the circle
  • Upgrades to Old Salem Road including a new adaptive traffic signal at the corner of Route 130 and Old Salem Road
  • Pedestrian upgrades such as ADA compliant sidewalks and curb ramps, new pavement, signs and striping, as well as utility, lighting and drainage improvements

Variable message and lane closure signs will be utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the Brooklawn circle improvement project. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before any upcoming road closures.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
