Somerdale Economic Development Continues with Gateway Village Homes Ribbon Cutting

As part of an overall $60 million redevelopment led by Somerdale, over the past 12 years, 30 units low and moderate-income residents were celebrated on Saturday with a ribbon cutting. These units were the result of a collaborative effort between the state, county, local municipality and private industry.

“This is the best kind of example of how working together can produce results for residents,” said Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli, Jr., praising Somerdale Mayor Gary Passanante for all his efforts in Somerdale and Camden County’s Community Development Director Gino Lewis for helping to put this part of the project together. Over 900 applications were received for these units, with 866 of them from local municipalities.

Director Cappelli was there, along with Congressman Rob Andrews, State Senator Jim Beach, Camden County Deputy Freeholder Director Ed McDonnell and Somerdale Mayor Gary Passanante to do  the honors  at the ribbon cutting for the 30 new units at Gateway Village.
This is one more chapter in a success story for Somerdale, where an abandoned shopping center has been transformed through the new retail expansion efforts at CooperTowne Center, consisting of a new 200,000 square foot WalMart, a new LA Fitness, Verizon Wireless, Cinemark Movie Complex, Applebee’s (slated to open in December) and Flying Fish Brewery.

They will be joined by 122 market rate Town Homes now being constructed at CooperTowne through a joint effort between Somerdale and developers Grapevine Developers and Ryan Homes.
The location on the White Horse Pike provides easy access to public transportation with a bus route along the White Horse Pike and Evesham Road, the speedline a quarter mile away, and within walking distance to retail shopping and entertainment.
