Important Information on Birth Certificates issued by Puerto Rico
If you are in possession of a birth certificate issued by Puerto Rico, the Camden County Board of Freeholders has important information regarding changes taking place on July 1, 2010.In December 2009, the government of Puerto Rico passed Law 191 regarding the validity of birth certificates for persons born in Puerto Rico. The intent of the law is to strengthen the issuance and usage of birth certificates, and to aid in the fight against identity theft.
“The new law will make all birth certificates issued by the Health Department of Puerto Rico prior to July 1, 2010 invalid,” said Freeholder Carmen Rodriguez. “In order to obtain a valid birth certificate, a new application must be submitted to Puerto Rico.”
Applications for new birth certificates will be accepted by Puerto Rico beginning July 1, 2010.
