Freeholders McDonnell and Rodriguez to Mark 20th Anniversary of ADA
WHEN: Monday, July 26, 2010, 10:00 AMWHERE: Camden County College, 601 Cooper Street, Camden
“Twenty years ago, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law,” said Freeholder Deputy Director Edward T. McDonnell. “Since that time, public access for individuals living with disabilities has greatly improved, and the prohibition of discrimination on the basis of disability has been firmly
established.”
To celebrate the 20thanniversary of this historic act, the Camden County Freeholder Board and the Camden County Division of Senior and Disabled Services will present a program at Camden County College’s Camden campus entitled “Moving Forward” on July 26.
“The program will honor the individuals that fought hard to bring about this legislation,” said Freeholder Carmen Rodriguez, liaison to the Division of Senior and Disabled Services. “That dedicated and persistent group also worked to implement the intent of the law over the past 20 years, continually enriching the lives of those living with disabilities.”
Joining the Freeholder Board in honoring the work of our local disabled community will be US Representative Robert Andrews, NJ Senate President Stephen Sweeney and Camden City Mayor Dana Redd. Members of the disabled community are invited to attend the anniversary celebration. Special guest speaker Scott Chesney will speak on life to the fullest by not allowing paralysis to hold you back.
The Camden County Division of Senior and Disabled Services is available to assist Camden County residents with disabilities. They publish a resource guide of non-profit agencies, government services and national organizations that are dedicated to both issues of disability and serving persons with disabilities.
The staff of the County’s Division of Senior and Disabled services provides information on a wide range of topics including basic benefits for persons with disabilities, employment resources, health care and transportation. They are located at 700 Browning Road, Suite 11, in West Collingswood, NJ. They can be reached by phone at 1-877-222-3737.
