Camden County Board of Freeholders Take Necessary Measures to Establish Camden County Police Department
Camden County Board of Freeholders Take Necessary Measures to Establish Camden County Police Department and Formulate Rules and Regulations for Proposed New EntityThis is Necessary Next Step in The Process As Mandated by New Jersey State Statute and Law
The Camden County Board of Freeholders voted Thursday night at the monthly Freeholder meeting on a resolution to establish a Camden County Police Department and to begin the process of formulating rules and regulations for the governing of such a force and for the discipline of its members, which will be formulated and adopted through the authority of statute N.J.S.A.40A: 14-106 and other appropriate law.
The statute permits the governing body of any county to create and establish a county police department and force and provide for its maintenance, regulation and control through financial agreements with various municipalities.
As has been stated before, it is totally voluntary for a municipality to join such a force and each municipality will pay for its own part of a County force.
The effective date of the establishment of the Camden County Police Department will be determined at the discretion of the Camden County Board of Freeholders and will depend on the completion of the steps that are necessary and appropriate to create the Department.
The City, state and County continue to meet on a proposed Metro Division Force in Camden City as a member of a countywide police department.
