Well over 1,000 women turn out for free event full of health resources
Approximately 1,400 women from all across the area gathered Saturday at Eastern High School in Voorhees for the 11thannual Camden County Women’s Health Conference. There were women of all ages and generations – including many who came with their mothers and grandmothers – to take advantage of all the free resources the event had to offer.
After an hour of breakfast and touring the nearly 100 exhibitors and sponsors set up in the gym and hallways, the women crowded into the auditorium to hear the freeholder introductions and the keynote speaker – Stephanie Stahl, health reporter for CBS 3.
“I think this program is a shining example of the vision the Freeholder Board has in regards to enhancing the quality of life for our residents by focusing on key health issues that affect all of us,” said Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr. “Another reason why we’re very proud of this event is that today’s event has been paid for without any county taxpayer dollars.”
Freeholder Cappelli and Freeholder Carmen Rodriguez extended their thanks to the many sponsors who paid for the event in its entirety – including Cooper University Hospital, The Courier-Post, CBS 3, McCarter & English, Verizon, Virtua, Camden County Woman, Campbell’s, Acacia Financial, Beneficial Bank, Bowman & Company LLP, First Colonial National Bank, Lourdes Health System, Susquehanna Bank, and TD Bank.
“The Camden County Women’s Health Conference provides a powerful free service to Camden County women by providing workshops, exhibitors and information on a wide variety of topics from health and wellness to financial health, relationships and family, and has been doing so for more than a decade,” Freeholder Rodriguez said. “As a working mother, a teacher and freeholder, and liaison to the Department of Health and Human Services, this event is very close to my heart.”
Rodriguez introduced Stahl, an Emmy Award-winning journalist, who spoke on her perspective as a health reporter. She touched on dieting, cancers and other issues affecting women, the importance of getting your flu shot, and even bed bugs and lice. She ended her keynote address with a question and answer session with the public, and then stayed afterward to speak personally with several women about their health issues and concerns.

Following the keynote address, women scattered into every direction for three workshop sessions. They had 70 different workshop choices that included Bollywood, Zumba, The Secret to Medicare, Herbs for Women, A Woman and her Credit, and several others covering physical, mental and financial health.
Between workshops and lunch, guests were able to spend more time with vendors and fill their tote bags with free gifts and an abundance of resource information.
