Heat
Alert
The
Camden County Public Health Officer has issued a Countywide HEAT
ALERT. All municipal cooling centers are open and available to the
public from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Please call your municipal/township
clerk for locations.
Public Guidelines:
Be
sure older and ill family members are contacted frequently, and
- That
they have a 72-hour supply of food
- Encourage
them to drink plenty of liquids
- That
there is ventilation in the home
- That
they have a fan or air conditioner-always open ONE window when
using a fan
- That
they are not experiencing any medical difficulties
Our
Division of Senior Services (1-877-222-3737) or 856 858-3220 (during
business hours) can assist homebound older Americans with fans.
Please note that the fan distribution depends on the availability
of fans - call now if you need one.
To
avoid Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke:
-
Practice heat safety measures when you are physically active
- Avoid
strenuous activity especially during the hottest part of the day,
between 10am-2PM
- Increase
your fluid intake….drink plenty of juices or water to replace
fluids. Avoid caffeine and alcohol.
- Do
not spend too much time in the sun.
- Wear
lightweight, light colored, loose fitting clothing
- Take
frequent breaks in the shade, by a fan or in air-conditioning
- Take
a cool bath or shower
