Description:
Flanked on three sides by tidal creeks, Brooklawn is Camden County's often
overlooked waterfront municipality. The Borough fronts on Ladds Cove, used
by large and small watercraft since the Dutch established Fort Nassau near
here in 1626. The cove and adjacent creeks are navigable with the tides.
Active marinas are found in neighboring Westville and Bellmawr. New marinas
and waterfront development is being developed at Southport in nearby Gloucester
City. Brooklawn has designated most of its waterfront and adjacent commercial
areas as redevelopment areas to encourage revitalization of this small,
hometown community. The waterfront abuts historic Noreg Village, which like
its more famous sister Yorkship Village (Fairview) in Camden, was designed
in an English village setting for shipyard workers.
