State Development & Redevelopment Plan
(SDRP)
New Jersey's State Plan provides a vision for what the State will
look like and how it will function in the year 2025, when about
one million more residents will call New Jersey home. The Plan establishes
a number of State government goals, objectives, policies and programs
to preserve and enhance the quality of life for all residents of
New Jersey. The plan is multi-faceted, with sections on land use,
housing, economic development, transportation, natural resource
conservation, agriculture and farmland retention, recreation, urban
and suburban redevelopment, historic preservation, public facilities
and services, and intergovernmental coordination.
The State Development and Redevelopment Plan tries to balance growth
and conservation by designating and mapping planning areas that
share common development conditions and environmental features.
Most of Camden County, except for the Pinelands Area and rural areas
without sewer service, are in Metropolitan Planning areas (Planning
Area 1), Suburban Planning areas (Planning Area 2) where development
and redevelopment are prioritized. Growth management policies for
the Pinelands Area are in the Pinelands
Comprehensive Management Plan.
Although the State Development & Redevelopment Plan defines State
government policies, it encourages local governments, the public
and non-profit sectors, and individuals to adopt and use the Plan's
growth management strategy in their decision-makings. Camden County's
Board of Chosen Freeholders endorsed the State Plan in 2000.
