Voorhees Township is taking a very innovative approach to brownfields redevelopment. The Township is turning this former landfill and chemical dump into an environmental education center, with a park and Asian-themed gardens. The site will include along its Centennial Boulevard frontage some commercial development. A local non-profit organization will use a portion of profits from the commercial uses to maintain the site's gardens and educational programs. The Buzby Landfill is adjacent to another redevelopment area, upon which Del Webb Homes recently built Centennial Mills - a 400-unit age-restricted, active-adult, neo-traditionally planned community. Shopping, golf courses and many restaurants are all very close. This site, and several adjacent properties, offer many possibilities for active and passive recreation and commercial development.
