Gloucester Township's primary goal for this area is to revitalize the Township's Blackwood historic district while encouraging construction of supportive commercial and residential mixed-use development in vacant and underutilized areas. The Township's redevelopment plan targets neighborhood preservation, storefront rehabilitation, streetscaping and infrastructure improvement projects for the southern part of the redevelopment site. The northern section will have "gateway" mixed-use residential and retail uses, and the center will feature a new residential community. Housing infill is a major element in the plan, which also recommends integration of Blackwood Lake and other natural resources for active and passive recreational development. Gloucester Township will implement architectural design guidelines in this area to preserve historic fabric and to enhance Blackwood West's future ambience.
